Now there's a new word for you.

Is anyone else over parallax websites?

It's been a whole month since I was told that this is the new big thing - they way the web is going and yes, this week I'm noticing that everyone's jumping on the band wagon. Has FB gone that way? I daren't look... because I'm beginning to hate parallax as much as I do FB.

Breaking the word parallaxative down you could easily dismiss my meaning as "gives one the shits" but I'm not trying to be uncouth. You see there's also the word LAX in there. Dictionary synonyms: slack, slipshod, negligent, neglectful, remiss, careless, heedless, unmindful, inattentive, slapdash, offhand, casual...

Parallax is fine if the implementation is done by a professional, and by that I mean someone that has truly trodden the boards and understands about loadtimes and bandwidth. In anyone else's hands the tendency is to go a little gaga with the one long page and WOW I"m so mod-ern factor that they fill that stretched out attention fragmenting billboard with un-optimised images. Groan.

I'm getting older and my ability to multi-task is not what it used to be but I'd still rather use a site in frames. Don't get me wrong – I love the wow factor even though it tends to blank out the previous 5-second wow. So yes, a lot of flipping up and down in parallax to remember what it was that I saw... up and down... again. Don't forget to put a menu in there!
